Yup, Obama won the Election. He has 338 electoral votes, while McCain has 156.

Are you glad or mad?

Even though he is the U.S.A.'s president, I still wanted Obama to win.

Yes, Obama, the half white-Arab with limited experience who is loved by most of the world (who hate us). That's just fan-frickin'-tastic.

Trissy how is he gay? Personaly I wanted mcain to win. Obama thinks that you would die in war. Without war we would be under british rule and wwe wouldnt be watching the shows we watch or the food we eat or anything. But who is still alive and made an emergancy landing in world war II on the ship the Intrepid? (Oh and my grandfather was on that ship) Plus that commercial that says shows that video of mcain saying he voted with bush over 90% of the time is faked, the picture of him having his arm over bush is also faked, and obama spent OVER 7 million dollars on ONE Infomercial. Both wanted to lower taxes. And about 25% of the Obama voters voted for him either becuase he was black, or mcain was old, or both.

Or because Sarah Palin (with more experience in government than Obama) 'isn't experienced enough.' Besides, if it weren't for Oprah, Obama'd be a bust. McCain was a better choice. Maverick, ftw!

PostSubject: Re: Congrats Obama.   Sun Dec 14, 2008 2:09 am

Sorry for the bump, but I just had to comment on this thread.

I'm very happy that Obama won, he is the man to clean up the mess that the current administration have made of the USA.

Why I would have voted for Obama [If I were in the US]:

• An energy plan with aims of combating global climate change, and also helps ease the squeeze for Americans at the fuel pump.

• Provide short‐term relief to American families facing pain at the pump

• Help create five million new jobs by strategically investing $150 billion over the next ten years to catalyze private efforts to build a clean energy future.

• Within 10 years save more oil than we currently import from the Middle East and Venezuela combined

• Put 1 million Plug‐In Hybrid cars – cars that can get up to 150 miles per gallon – on the road by 2015, cars that we will work to make sure are built here in America

• Ensure 10 percent of our electricity comes from renewable sources by 2012, and 25 percent by 2025

• Implement an economy‐wide cap‐and‐trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050

• Provide an affordable and accessible health plan for all Americans.

• Provide tax cuts for 95% of working Americans in need of tax relief.

• Eliminate all capital gains taxes on startup and small businesses to encourage innovation and job creation.

• Reform the woeful no child left behind policy.

• Make college affordable to all Americans, with a $4000 Tax credit in return for community service.

• End Racial Profiling.

• A responsible and phased removal of troops in Iraq.

He isn't Arabic. Even if he was, so what? That sounds a little racist to me. He's also had plenty of experience in the Illinois senate and served in the US Senate.

Maybe you should consider why the world hates you, and look at Barack Obama as a chance to save your international reputation.

War is tragic. The catastrophic loss of life and human suffering is not something to be championed. Sure war may be inevitable in some conflicts, but to have it needlessly is a disrespect to human life itself.

Nope, it's true. It doesn't matter much though, most senators will regularly vote along their party lines.

It was like that on both sides though. Many people wouldn't vote for Obama "because he's a terrorist" which couldn't be further from the truth.

Peace all Hello

I'm very happy that Obama won, he is the man to clean up the mess that the current administration have made of the USA.
-We don't know half the things the current administration has done. Like the hundreds of doctors Bush sent to Africa.

• An energy plan with aims of combating global climate change, and also helps ease the squeeze for Americans at the fuel pump.
-It starts with you. All I'm sayin'.

• Provide short‐term relief to American families facing pain at the pump
-Gas has fallen to about $1.50 from almost $4.00. We're dying.

• Help create five million new jobs by strategically investing $150 billion over the next ten years to catalyze private efforts to build a clean energy future.
-It worked in the Great Depression, but will it work now?

• Within 10 years save more oil than we currently import from the Middle East and Venezuela combined
-From where? The off-shore drilling he recently flip-flopped to support?

• Put 1 million Plug‐In Hybrid cars – cars that can get up to 150 miles per gallon – on the road by 2015, cars that we will work to make sure are built here in America
-Sorry, but these things aren't ready for the highways. Bad crash safety, don't go fast enough, etc.

• Ensure 10 percent of our electricity comes from renewable sources by 2012, and 25 percent by 2025
-That's been planned long before Obama.

• Implement an economy‐wide cap‐and‐trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050
-Again, before Obama.

• Provide an affordable and accessible health plan for all Americans.
-Socialism!

• Provide tax cuts for 95% of working Americans in need of tax relief.
-Because the government isn't runnig on empty enough as it is.

• Eliminate all capital gains taxes on startup and small businesses to encourage innovation and job creation.
-Obama sure likes to go against his party's norm of high taxes. Or so he says.

• Reform the woeful no child left behind policy.
-I say kill the thing altogether.

• Make college affordable to all Americans, with a $4000 Tax credit in return for community service.
- E \. F

• End Racial Profiling.
-Hardly.

• A responsible and phased removal of troops in Iraq.
-We'll still need a lot of troops after wards. Besides, you tell the world when you're leaving, the terrorists will come right back out.

Quote:

-Sorry to say, but he is.
So, so what? He's still a rockstar!
Also, "that's racist!" is one of the biggest loads of B.S. I've ever seen.
Barack Hussein Obama was in the Senate for three years.

Maybe you should consider why the world hates you, and look at Barack Obama as a chance to save your international reputation.
-You think that the leaders of the non-democratic countries (a.k.a. communist, dictatorships, etc.) are going to say nice things about us?

-But all Republicans are ebil!

-The Bradley Effect is a lot more of a gain for Obama than a loss.

Well, all-in-all, I've got to have hope that our new president knows what he's doing. The fate of countries (intentionally plural) aren't something to gamble with.
And remember: Set your expectations for these kind of things low. Turns out bad? You're not disappointed. Turns out good? What a pleasant surprise.

Goody, I love debates.

-We don't know half the things the current administration has done. Like the hundreds of doctors Bush sent to Africa.

Nearly all wealthy government leaders send aid to foreign countries, this is common humanity. Just look at all the huge blunders the current President has made. You have the weapons of mass disappearance, the levelling of a country, Guantanamo Bay, illegal surveillance on it's own citizens [right to privacy anyone?], woeful no child left behind act, a hand picked highly religious Supreme Court, mixture of Church and State, nothing done for the environment, no proactive measures to prevent the credit crunch... I could go on and on for hours. I'll just stop there though.

Sorry, I wrote that point before the recession.

Hahahahaha. Hybrids are just as safe [if not safer] then cars of the same size. The speeds are just the same as well. I think you're thinking of something else.

That's been planned long before Obama.

Not by Republicans that's for sure. It is Obama who is actually committing to it though, ready to bite the bullet and put a real effort in to circumventing climate change.

Again, before Obama.

See above.

Goody, I love debates.
-As do I. I just hope we can keep it classy.

Nearly all wealthy government leaders send aid to foreign countries, this is common humanity. Just look at all the huge blunders the current President has made. You have the weapons of mass disappearance, the leveling of a country, Guantanamo Bay, illegal surveillance on it's own citizens [right to privacy anyone?], woeful no child left behind act, a hand picked highly religious Supreme Court, mixture of Church and State, nothing done for the environment, no proactive measures to prevent the credit crunch... I could go on and on for hours. I'll just stop there though.
-There was evidence the was WMDs. It would have been irresponsible to not investigate. Also, this. Guantan (as I like to call it) is... complicated. We don't know half there is to know, it's all classified. But holding dangerous enemies to the U.S. is bad how? The 'wire-tapping' was an issue... four to six years ago (about)? Again, no child had good intentions, but it's hurting now. It should go altogether, not be reformed. Well around 90% of Americans are Christian, and 97% ddon't mind hearing "Merry Christmas" (±3.3% error, so all might not mind) The ACLU is trying to get rid of Christmas (though they'll deny it under "separation of church and state.") O hai! Credit church? Oh, you mean the tax-free income they've had going since the start of this great country, about 250 years ago? You'll have to blame every president for that.

Sorry, I wrote that point before the recession.
-No problem.

I don't see why not.
-Rhetorical question. Sorry about that.

Hahahahaha. Hybrids are just as safe [if not safer] then cars of the same size. The speeds are just the same as well. I think you're thinking of something else.
-Oh, I'm sorry, I'm thinking of something other than a golf cart.

Not by Republicans that's for sure. It is Obama who is actually committing to it though, ready to bite the bullet and put a real effort in to circumventing climate change.
-O Rly?

I'd use the term "fairness" personally. Many countries in the world [including my home county of Australia] have universal healh care systems that are infinitely better then the current US system.
-No offense, but you've not experienced the U.S. that I know. It's a pretty good place. anyway, it depends if it's a mandatory thing or not. Some people actually don't want health insurance. As well, and again, money in the government is tight. I mean, you've got Illinois senators selling Obama's seat!

Evidently not if they can come up with huge bail out packages. =P
-Ouch! Besides, it's out Democrat Congress, Senate, and Judicial branch. I don't know why the president is looked at as the only one who does anything. We don't have a king for a reason!

Erm, since when have the Democrats been about high taxes?
-That's been a Democrat plank in the platform since the beginning, basically. They just don't mention it much.

Sorry I must not be "hip" enough to know what this means.
-Running on empty.

You have evidence to say that he won't?
-You have evidence to say he will?

Mate, the terrorists you're looking for are actually in Afghanistan. Not Iraq.
-We're helping Iraq set up it's government. We're hunting terrorists in Afghanistan, however they're all pretty close together with no real border security (miles of deserts and mountains are hard to cover).

So you're saying someone who is of Arabic decent [which Obama isn't by the way] should not be allowed to become President. I really do not see how that is not being racist.
-I never said that they couldn't. Stop putting words in my mouth. He has three Arabic/Muslim names, one of which is the name of an infamous terrorist leader. My family isn't Oriental, and guess what? No one named Woo.

It's not just the leaders of non-democratic countries my friend.
-China, Russia, Venezuela, etc.

Lol, IQ is meaningless.
-But they'll still boast about it when they get a 120+ on an online test.

Like I said, I don't have to be happy about it, but hoping he does bad is un-American, at least in my book. It's like hating your favorite team because their new coach (or in my team's case, new quarterback) isn't who you wanted.
