 | Subject: Worldwide games industry to reach more than $68 billion USD Sat Jun 21, 2008 6:49 am | |
| | Quote: | Despite the economies of various countries slowing down in recent times, the game industry is still on the rise, and it's set to continue, according to a report.
Approximately $41.9 billion USD in sales worldwide were made by the games industry during 2007, according to a study conducted by financial firm PricewaterhouseCoopers. This is set to rise even further in the next four years, however, with the company releasing a new report with forecasts between 2008 and 2012, when the games industry is expected to reach $68.3 billion.
The console gaming sector of the gaming industry is tipped to be the beneficiary from this rise in sales, with the PC gaming industry predicted to lose sales as a result. Console game sales are expected to go from last year's figure of $24.9 billion to $34.7 billion in 2012, and PC game sales are predicted to drop from 2007's $3.8 billion amount to a slightly lower $3.6 billion.
Online games, however, are expected to rise as well, jumping from $6.6 billion in 2007 to $14.4 billion USD by 2012.
